The 1747-L542 is a processor within the SLC 500 series, designed to handle a maximum of 4096 discrete inputs and outputs. It is equipped with 64 KB of integrated memory, with 60 KB allocated for data and program storage and 4 KB for data storage only. The processor also includes a Flash EPROM backup memory and supports 107 programming instructions. Its 64 KB of RAM is battery-backed to ensure reliability during power loss.

This processor supports a maximum of 3 I/O chassis and up to 30 I/O module slots. Communication is enabled through both a DH+ port and an RS-232 port. Additionally, status LEDs are present for monitoring forced I/O, CPU status, and communication ports (RS-232 and DH+).

The program scan time for the 1747-L542 averages 0.9 milliseconds per K of program, with a typical I/O scan time of 0.225 milliseconds. Bit execution time is 0.37 µs. In the event of power loss, the processor has a program scan hold-up time ranging from 20 milliseconds to 3 seconds, depending on power supply load.
