The 1756-L1 is a versatile 5550 controller designed for industrial automation. It supports up to 250 connections and has a compact weight of 0.28 kilograms (10.0 ounces). This controller includes 64 kilobytes of user memory and can be installed directly into any available slot in a chassis. Multiple controllers can be placed in different slots within the same chassis, where they can communicate across the backplane or operate independently. The 1756-L1 is capable of communication over DeviceNet, RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocols), ControlNet, DH+, and EtherNet/IP networks. However, it does not feature nonvolatile memory.
This controller requires a peak backplane current of 0.65 Amps at 5 Volts DC and 0.02 Amps at 24 Volts DC. It dissipates power at an average rate of 3.3 Watts, with a thermal dissipation of 11.3 BTU/hour. The 1756-L1 operates effectively within a temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and can be stored between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius. It maintains functionality in a noncondensing relative humidity range of 5% to 95%.
The unit is robust, with a storage shock capacity of 50 G peak for 11 milliseconds and an operating shock capacity of 30 G peak for 11 milliseconds. Additionally, it withstands vibrations between 10 to 500 Hertz with a peak acceleration of 2.0 G. For battery replacements, the controller is compatible with the 1756-BA1 lithium battery, weighing 0.59 grams. The programming cables suited for this device are the category 3 serial cables, models 1756-CP3 and 1747-CP3.
