The Allen-Bradley 1756-OF6CI module is a ControlLogix Series A general purpose isolated analog current/voltage output module. This module has 6 available individually-isolated current outputs. It also has a 13-bit resolution across 21 milliamps (2.7 µA). It requires either the 1756-TBNH or 1756-TBSH removable terminal block housing (RTB) before it can be installed in a grounded and installed chassis.


Communication format types available with the 1756-OF6CI module are the integer and floating point formats. Features of this analog output module include data echo, ramping/rate limiting, clamping/limiting, clamp/limit alarms, and hold for initialization. It also has module fault reporting, Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) capability, electronic keying, configurable software, a rolling timestamp, an access-to-system clock for timestamp functions, status indicator information, a product/consumer model, agency certification, full compliance with Class I Division 2 standards, latching of alarms, sensor offset, and field calibration. The RSLogix 5000 software programs the1756-OF6CI’s features.

It has a range of 0 to 20 milliamps with a low signal and user counts of 0 milliamps and -32768 counts and a high signal and user counts of 21.074 milliamps with 32767 counts. The current draw of this module at 5.1V is 250 milliamps from 0 to 550 ohms terminated on the OUTs and RTNs and 551 to 1000 ohms terminated on the OUTs and ALTs. At 24V, its current draw is 225 milliamps for 0 to 550 ohms terminated on the OUTs and RTNs and 300 milliamps for 551 to 1000 ohms terminated on OUTs and ALTs. It has a total backplane power of 6.7 W for 0 to 550 ohms and 8.5 W for 551 to 1000 ohms. The module has a maximum power dissipation of 5.5 W for 0 to 550 ohms loads and 6.1 W for 551 to 1000 ohms loads. It does not have open circuit detection but it does have a 24V DC overvoltage protection and a short circuit protection that is limited to 21 milliamps or less. Routine tested at 1350V AC for 2 s, its continuous isolation voltage is 250V.

The 1756-OF6CI module has a maximum module scan time of 10 ms for the integer format and 25 ms for floating point format with a module error of 0.6% of the range. Its settling time is less than 2 ms to 95% of final value with resistive loads, a calibration interval of 6 months, and a calibrated accuracy of better than 0.1% of 4 to 21 milliamps at 25 Degrees Celsius. The nominal gain drift with temperature is 60 ppm per Degree Celsius and the maximum gain drift with temperature is 100 ppm per Degree Celsius.

1756-IF16 Module Fault Word Bits – Floating Point Mode Bits in this word provide the highest level of fault detection. A non-zero condition in this word reveals that a fault exists on the module. You can examine further down to isolate the fault. The table lists tags that can be examined in ladder logic to indicate when a fault has occurred.


1756-IF16 Channel Fault Word Bits – Floating Point Mode During normal module operation, bits in the Channel Fault word are set if any of the respective channels has an Under or Overrange condition. Checking this word for a non-zero value is a quick way to check for Under or Overrange conditions on the module. The table lists the conditions that set all Channel Fault word bits.

Your logic can monitor the Channel Fault Word bit for a particular input to determine the state of that point. 1756-IF16 Channel Status Word Bits – Floating Point Mode Any of the Channel Status words, one for each channel, display a non-zero condition if that particular channel has faulted for the conditions listed below. Some of these bits set bits in other Fault words. When the Underrange or Overrange bits (bits 6 and 5) in any of the words are set, the appropriate bit is set in the Channel Fault word.

When the Calibration Fault bit (bit 7) is set in any of the words, the Calibration Fault bit (bit 9) is set in the Module Fault word. The table lists the conditions that set each of the word bits.
