The 1771-VHSC PLC 5 Very High-Speed Counter Module by Allen-Bradley is an intelligent Block Transfer I/O module which performs high-speed counting for industrial applications and interface signals with any PLC with Block transfer capability. The occupies a single I/O slot of the 1771 Chassis and it has 4 input channels configured for Counter Mode, Encoder Mode, Period/Rate Mode, and Continuous/Rate Mode, and a programmable maximum count value of 0-999,999. 

The 1771-VHSC has 2 input types (single-ended and differential inputs) with selectable input frequencies of 250 KHz for 2-phase encoder mode (X1 and X4) and 500 KHz in period/rate-mode and it can go up to 1 MHz in the single-phase counter mode selected via the user-selectable Electromechanical Switch.
