The PLC 1746-IO8 is an SLC 500 120 Volt AC Digital input/output combination module. Its input operates at 85 to 132 Volts AC, its output at 5 to 265 Volts AC (or 5 to 125 Volts DC). It is an 8-channel device with 4 points per common, 4 outputs, and 4 inputs per module. It has a backplane current load of 45 mA at 24 Volts DC and 60 mA at 5 Volts DC, with 0.27 Watts per input point and 0.133 Watts per output point representing the thermal dissipation that occurs when the point is powered at nominal voltage. In the absence of a field power, heat is dissipated at 0.75 Watts with 1.60 Watts being the total when all the points are powered. The minimum heat dissipation that can occur is 2.13 Watts, while 3 Watts is the maximum.
The 1746-IO8 can be fitted to any slot on a 1746 I/O chassis except the 0 slot. It helps to save space and cost by offering both input and output in a single device but does not have a removable terminal block. It does, however, have LED indicators to make troubleshooting easier. Ladder logic programming also facilitates direct access to input or output values.
The 1746-IO8 is CSA Class one, division two hazardous location certified. Around 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit is the optimal operating temperature range for this device, although it can be stored within a -40 to 185-degree Fahrenheit range while it is not operational. It is industrially hardened and can withstand up to 30 Gs of operating shock.
