The PLC 1747-AICR device is an isolated link coupler for the SLC 500 controllers which is used to connect devices from the SLC 500 family to the DH-485 network. The coupler comes with a 6-position RTB (removable terminal block) for DH-485 cable connection. A 12-inch cable supplied with the 1747-AICR coupler (catalog number 1747-C11) is used to provide a network connection for the SLC 500 controller. A 6-foot cable with the catalog number 1747-C10 is required to provide network connections for peripheral devices such as hand-held terminals, data table access modules, and personal interface converters. Up to 1500 Volts DC isolation is provided by the coupler between the cables and connected drives to protect the connected controllers and peripheral devices. The 1747-AICR coupler also provides connectivity for peripheral devices for distances of up to 4000 feet.
The PLC 1747-AICR coupler is powered by the controller when it is connected to the controller. If the link coupler is not connected to the controller, then an external Class 2-rated 24 Volts DC power supply is required. The chassis ground terminal on the link coupler must be grounded before it is put into operation. Both the minimum and maximum power draw of the 1747-AIC coupler is 2 Watts. The cable recommended for the DH-485 network connections is Belden #9842 cable. This is a jacketed cable which is shielded and contains 2 twisted wire pairs and a drain wire. One pair of wires is used to provide a balanced line signal. The other wire pair is used as a common reference. The shield on the cable reduces the effect of external noise.
