The 1775-GA is a peripheral communications module which is manufactured by PLC. It belongs to the category of PLC-3 Programmable Controller Backup systems. Its function is to provide extensive communication features to the PLC-3 programmable controller. The 1775-GA is built with two primary local communication channels that enable it to monitor all production facilities, including outside sources. In addition to this, the presence of two remote communication channels in the 1775-GA allows additional peripheral communication and ability to store large amounts of data online. The 1775-GA functions on M68000 and Z8002 microprocessors, which provides high-speed information processing to allow this module to simultaneously process eight different and unassociated tasks.
For easy information on the general condition and simple troubleshooting of the 1775-GA, there are LED indicators located at the top of the module. These indicators include the PASS (green, for normal operation) and FAIL (red, for module fault) indicator, the local channel indicator (green) which indicates the status of each of the local channels present on the module and the Remote Channel indicators that show the condition of the remote channels also present in the module. A thumbwheel switch is also present, which is useful for peripheral communication module differentiation. This switch, present in the 1775-GA, also allows for the concurrent running of tasks in multiples of eight. The 1775-GA enables long distance cabling which means that peripheral devices that are located at a distance from the module can still be connected. This feature makes the 1775-GA efficient for floor planning.
