IGCTs are used predominantly as snubberless devices in high frequency PWM applications.

As can be seen from Table 1 however, Type 12 with its high turn-off loss and low on-state voltage is designed for very low frequency applications in which snubbers do not generally pose a loss problem.

This new generation of IGCTs is comprised of a gate driver whose functionality is suitable for symmetric, asymmetric and reverse conducting GCTs of any voltage class and application up to 1000 Hz.
