FAQ
Q: Is CNC rapid
prototyping?
A: The
accuracy of CNC machine tools could be 0.005mm with correct machine. Rapid
prototyping technology has recently bridged this gap, but CNC is still the most
accurate process. And if the tools and materials remain unchanged, their
repeatability is better than rapid prototyping.
Q: What is
rapid prototyping used for?
A: 1. Design
verification and functional verification during the development of new
products.
RP technology can quickly convert the CAD
model of the product design into a physical physical model, which can easily
verify the rationality, assembleability, and aesthetics of the designer's
design ideas and product structure, and find that the problems in the design
can be modified in time. If you use traditional methods, you need to complete
multiple links such as drawing, process design, tooling and mold manufacturing,
and the cycle is long and the cost is high. If it is directly put into
production without design verification, once there is a design error, it will
cause great losses.
2. Direct production of single
parts, small batches and special complex parts.
For the parts of polymer
materials, high-strength engineering plastics can be used for rapid molding to
meet the requirements of use; for complex metal parts, they can be obtained by
rapid casting or direct metal molding. This application has special significance
for the aviation, aerospace and defense industries.
3.Rapid mold manufacturing.
Through various conversion technologies,
the RP prototype is converted into various rapid molds, such as low-melting
alloy molds, silicone molds, metal cold spray molds, ceramic molds, etc., for
the production of small and medium-sized batch parts, to meet the needs of fast
product replacement and increasing volume Small development trend. The field of
rapid prototyping applications includes almost all industries in the manufacturing
field, and has also been more and more widely used in industries such as
medical treatment, ergonomics, and cultural relics protection.
Q: Will 3D
printing replace CNC machining?
A: 1. The
CNC machining industry is based on standards, whether it is spindles, tool
interfaces, control systems, etc. However, there is currently no standard in
the field of additive manufacturing-3D Printing, and it takes time to establish
such standards.
2.In terms of processing efficiency, there is
a wonderful 1: 3 rule, that is, the efficiency of CNC processing is three times
that of additive manufacturing-3D printing. In the production field, efficiency
is the lifeline of an enterprise, which is undoubtedly a factor that 3D
printing cannot replace CNC Machining technology.
3.The surface accuracy of 3D printing
cannot reach the level of CNC machining, which is why 3D printing cannot
replace machining. Especially for precision components in aerospace, the
requirements for dimensional tolerances are very strict. 3D printing can only
cooperate with CNC Machining to complete parts manufacturing.
4.Because there seems to be a common
misunderstanding that the future production methods should be converted to 3D
printing. The relationship between 3D printing and traditional processing
methods is more complementary than replacing. CNC Machining and 3D printing
will coexist. 3D printing will become a part of the processing chain. How much
of a complete part requires 3D printing depends on the condition of the
workpiece.
