Silicone Rubber Stationary Insulation Cover-Silicone rubber has been widely used in electrical insulation of power equipment.According to international standards, high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber for power insulation shall support 3.0 kV in electrical tracking and corrosion tests as determined by IEC. However, most silicon rubber used to make power components support a maximum voltage of 2.75 kV. This study presents a careful evaluation of the electrical properties of a new 6.0kV silicone rubber by a world renowned manufacturer in the power sector.
The new silicone rubber is electrically tracked and corrosion tested using two different methods described in IEC 60587: the step method and the stabilization method.These two test procedures are performed in AC, following the recommendations of the specification, and are also suitable for DC analysis.
