The Speed and Key Monitor is engineered for high reliability, specifically for monitoring critical rotating machinery in plants, including parameters such as speed, phase, zero speed, and rotation direction. This single-slot monitor integrates seamlessly with AMS 6500 monitors to create a comprehensive API 670-compliant machinery protection system, suitable for steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and hydro-turbomachinery.
In redundant mode, the Speed and Key Monitor provides automatic switchover from primary to backup tachometer if sensor gap voltage or pulse counting triggers a switchover. For effective operation in redundant mode, the main and failover speed or key displacement sensors should be installed in the same axial plane to maintain phase continuity during a failover event.
This API 670-compliant, hot-swappable module includes features such as remote-selectable limit multiply, trip bypass, rear-buffered proportional outputs, and a 0/4-20 mA output. Self-checking capabilities monitor critical aspects such as hardware status, power input, temperature, and sensor connections. It is compatible with displacement sensors (models 6422, 6423, 6424, 6425) and drivers (CON 011/91, 021/91, and 041/91), with options for installation in either a 6TE or 8TE width, within an AMS 6000 or AMS 6500 19” rack-mounted chassis.
FAQ:
1. What is the primary function of the Speed and Key Monitor?
The Speed and Key Monitor is designed to monitor the speed, phase, zero speed, and rotation direction of critical rotating machinery in industrial plants. It works in tandem with AMS 6500 monitors to form a complete API 670-compliant machinery protection system, ideal for turbines, compressors, and other turbo machinery.
2. What applications is this monitor suitable for?
This monitor is commonly used with steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and hydro turbo machinery due to its high reliability and integration with API 670 standards.
3. How does redundant mode work in the Speed and Key Monitor?
In redundant mode, the monitor automatically switches from the primary tachometer to a backup tachometer if it detects issues through sensor gap voltage or pulse counting. This switchover ensures continuous monitoring and protection. It’s crucial for the main and backup sensors to be aligned in the same axial plane for phase continuity.
