Clinical Uses
- Local Anesthesia:
Topical:
Creams/gels (2–5%) for minor skin procedures (e.g., IV insertion, laser therapy).
Ointments (e.g., hemorrhoid relief).
Injectable:
Infiltration anesthesia (0.5–2%).
Nerve blocks (1–2%) for dental/dermatologic surgery.
Epidural/spinal anesthesia (often combined with bupivacaine).
- Cardiac Applications:
Ventricular Tachycardia/Ventricular Fibrillation: IV lidocaine (1–1.5 mg/kg bolus).
- Other Uses:
Mucosal Anesthesia: Sprays (e.g., endoscopy, intubation).
Neuropathic Pain: Lidocaine patches (5%) for postherpetic neuralgia.
