Medium wave infrared heaters produce infrared waves of around 2.6-3.5um and operate at 500 – 1,300C degree. These wavelengths have lower frequencies, which are better absorbed by objects. Medium wave IR emitters are excellent for surface heating and for drying coatings paint, dyes, lacquers, adhesives and in the processing of plastic sheet and films. Because of their long life, medium wave quartz infrared heaters perform extremely well in continuous processes. Also it is slower in response to changes in process requirement as compared to the short-wavelength lamps and are slower to heat up and cool down.

Infrared heaters are matched to different requirements by the correct selection of wavelength. Short wave heaters offer excellent depth of penetration while medium wave heaters rapidly heat the surface and thin layers and feature very high absorption by water films.The better the emitted wavelength fits the absorption spectrum of the material to be heated, the more efficient the process.
