Product reference 1756-CN2
The 1756-CN2 ControlNet Communication Bridge Module by Allen-Bradley is a communication module for ControlLogix devices. It offers the ControlNet Network and uses the CIP and the P2P network for high-speed performance. It uses a standard configuration with a 5Mbps communication speed and has a communication capacity of up to 100 Logix connections. The 1756-CN2 can also support a maximum of 128 connections with 99 redistribution points (nodes). It has an electrical rating of 1100mA draw current at 5.1V DC and one of 3.0A at 24V DC and it has an operational power dissipation of 5.6W, with a thermal dissipation of 19.1 BTU/hr.
The 1756-CN2 has an isolation voltage of 30V with a basic insulation type that is tested at 500V for 60s between ControlNet to System. It has a single slot width and it can be installed in any slot on the chassis. It has a ControlNet BNC, a ControlNet RJ45, and a USB 1.1 port and it uses the Quad shield RG6 coaxial ControlNet cable. It has a T4A designated temperature code in North America and an IEC T4 designation code in Europe and it comes in an open-style enclosure. The 1756-CN2 has a functional temperature margin between 0 and 60 °C and it operates best at a relative humidity range of 5-95% with condensation. It has an operational vibration of 2.0G at 10-500Hz and its operational shock rate is up to 30G.
The ControlNet Interface Module and Redundant Media
Use the 1756-CN2 ControlLogix ControlNet series B module if
redundant media is not necessary. Applications requiring redundant
media must use the 1756-CN2R module.
Understanding Standalone and Redundant Control
You can use the 1756-CN2R series B modules for standalone or
redundant control. For standalone control, only one set of modules is
required. For redundant control, two ControlLogix chassis are
populated with identical pairs of modules called partners. The chassis
that performs active control is called the primary chassis and the
modules in the chassis are called primary modules. The other chassis
is called the secondary chassis and the modules in the chassis are
called secondary modules.
These installation instructions discuss both standalone and redundant
control; read them carefully to distinguish the procedures and
requirements for each type of control.
If you use redundant control, you must select the same ControlNet
network address for each set of partner modules (primary and
secondary). You must also place the partner modules in the same
corresponding slots in their respective redundant-control chassis
pair.
