The Allen-Bradley 1756-M02AE is an analog encoder (AE) servo module. It is a Series A module that contains two axes and a quadrature-position feedback output. This module controls drives or actuators that need either a +/- 10V velocity or a torque reference input. It ensures that the actuator (motor) follows the profile by monitoring the position feedback via the quadrature encoder input. It also generates an analog command reference for the drive. It can be configured using the RSLogix 5000 software.
The 1756-M02AE module functions with several quadrature-output rotary and linear transducers. It can be mounted to a ControlLogix chassis, including the 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, and the 1756-A17, but it requires an RTB, or Removable Terminal Block. The 1756-TBCH or the 1756-TBS6H RTB are both compatible this module, and they can be installed in any available slot of the chassis. Ground the chassis and power supply before installing the module with the RTB to the chassis.
It has a loop update rate of 500 µs for the position and 250 µs for the velocity. Its drive model time constant is 1502 µs and it has a torque loop bandwidth of 106 Hz. The 1756-M02AE module also has home limit switch inputs, drive fault inputs, and drive enable outputs. Three direct connections are possible with the 1756-M02AE module. Its servo loop type is a nested PI digital position and velocity servo. Its gain resolution is a 32-bit floating point at a rate of 5 kHz. Its absolute position range is +/-1,000,000,000 encoder counts.
The input type of the 1756-M02AE module is an encoder input with incremental AB quadrature and a marker. The encoder mode has a 4X quadrature and a maximum encoder rate of 4 MHz counts per second.
This module has 5V or 24V position registration inputs. Its current draw is 700 mA at 5.1V DC and 2.5 mA at 24V DC with a module power of 3.63 W. The module’s power dissipation is 5.5 W and its electrical interference is 5V differential (optically isolated). It has an on-state voltage range of 3.4 to 5V and an off-state voltage range of 0 to 1.8V.
It also has an optically-isolated, current sinking input type. Its nominal voltage is 24V DC. The on-state minimum voltage is 17V DC, the maximum on-state is 26.4V DC, and the maximum off-state voltage is 8.5V DC.
The SERCOS interface modules use a single, digital fiber-optic link, which
eliminates as many as 18 digital wires per axis. Detailed drive-status
information can be sent from drive to controller and from controller to drive.
