Quartz,
also called engineered quartz stone, is one of the hardest minerals on earth,
thus when used as a countertop option in homes, it is arguably the most durable
choice. They can be made in a variety of colors from bright red to green, as well as a popular brown, black and
cream colors. The durability of quartz is one of its greatest assets.
Engineered quartz countertops resist corrosion and stains from household
cleaning solutions, liquids, and oils. However, high heat can still damage
quartz, and it can become discolored when exposed to direct sunlight for too
long.
Quartz
countertops are easy to care for, and because the surface is non-porous, they
are hard to stain. Use soap and water
for everyday cleaning and stay away from harsh, abrasive cleansers, and
cleansers that contain bleach. You can gently scrape hardened material off with
a plastic putty knife. Quartz is
resistant to cracks, scratches and stains. However, like most materials,
excessive force and/or pressure from objects can damage the surface. Quartz is
resistant to most stains caused by fruit juices, liquid food coloring, coffee,
tea, wine, etc.
